A Midsummer Nights Dream – Hannah & Joni’s Real Wedding

There are 3 things that we just love about Hannah & Joni’s wedding… 1. Swancar House – this wedding venue is an absolute picture and perfect for creating your special day. 2. The ‘Midsummer Nights Dream’ theme is perfect for hopeless romantics and has been put together beautifully. 3. The couple themselves. The day was effortlessly captured by Simon Biffen and through the photographs alone, you can see that Hannah & Joni had the most amazing day and are simply meant to be together. Not to mention the double whammy of having Jessica the Midlands Harpist and Kings of the Dancefloor to entertain them throughout the day… We definitely feel this was a wedding that just had to be shared!

Tell us a bit about yourselves

Joni is a Landscape Architect and I work in recruitment in the city so it is very unlikely that we would ever have met each other had it not been for MySingleFriend.com. After an eventful first date (I went to the wrong pub) we were inseparable and within 6 months we had moved in together.

The Proposal

For our first valentines day Joni took me to see Andrea Bocceli performing in Portofino… at the local cinema. It was still really romantic and I said that Portofino looked liked the most romantic place on earth. 1 year later he surprised me with a phenomenal weekend in Portofino and he proposed on the beach.

So you said yes… What happened next?

We were so happy and cracked on with the planning straight away, I am from Derbyshire and knew I wanted to get married near to where I had grown up so we started the search for the perfect venue. We saw 4 or 5 lovely places but the moment we walked in to Swancar Farm we knew that we had to get married there. They only had a few dates left but one of them happened to be our ideal date – 27th June. It falls half way between our birthdays and 6 months after Christmas so we have something lovely to celebrate every 3 months throughout the year.

The Decor

Once we had chosen the venue we started to think about the look and feel of our wedding day. Joni is naturally creative and a real romantic. He took me to see an open air production of a Midsummer Nights Dream and our theme was born. We did most of the creative work ourselves including designing our ‘save the dates’ and invitations to really help set the scene.

The Flowers

We found Helen Foster from The Flower Mill and she was really excited to be involved. Her flowers pulled the whole theme together beautifully. We were so lucky with all of our suppliers as they were able to capture the ethereal theme perfectly.

The Entertainment

Kings of The Dance Floor played at our wedding and were exceptional. The dance floor was full from the moment they played our first song until they finished their last set at midnight. They catered for everyone and we had so many compliments from our guests. They were also really good sports and liaised with both myself and my finance separately so that we could sing for each other as a surprise! I would recommend KOTDF to anyone organising a wedding or a party as they really did exceed all of our expectations.

We also booked Jessica the Midlands Harpist to perform during the ceremony and drinks reception and she played beautifully. She looked the part and was perfect for the Midsummer theme, even the harp looked like it was created for the wedding.

The wedding was the best day of our lives followed by an incredible Honeymoon in Dubai and Mauritius. The whole planning process was so much fun and we really learnt a lot about each other – we are now throwing ourselves in to our next project and are busy redesigning our new house… no rest for the wicked!
