How to book and hire a Wedding DJ

If you are thinking about booking a Wedding DJ the following guide is designed to help you make the right choice and make sure things go without a hitch... well, except one thing of course!

Firstly, why should you book a DJ? After all, Warble’s Party Bands provide pre-recorded music between sets anyway... well, here’s why:

  • A DJ has the ability to cover a wide variety of music and can handle any last-minute or unusual song requests.

  • A DJ plays the ‘original’ versions, which sometimes can be difficult for a band to perform even with the most talented of artists.

  • A DJ does not need breaks. Whilst all of Warble’s Party Bands will play pre-recorded music when they take a break this is inevitably not as effective as having a DJ who can gauge the audience every minute and adapt their playlist accordingly.

  • A DJ requires less space and power. So, if space is a concern at your venue booking a DJ is a great option for enabling the Party to still go ahead.

  • A DJ will also invariably be cheaper than a band and therefore ideal for those on a tighter budget. As there are normally one or two members of the DJs crew this means that the cost is kept low with both personnel and also extra concerns such as the feeding of the artist.

  • A DJ can effectively manipulate their volume. For venues where the level of sound is an issue (for example, those fitted with decibel limiters) a DJ can provide the ideal solution as they can easily turn up or down accordingly. Whilst Warble’s bands are extremely conscientious about this also and are able to play quieter when necessary, a drummer can only play so soft before it becomes detrimental to the Party-ness of the Party Band.

  • A DJ can take requests. Booking a DJ gives you the flexibility of allowing your guests to make requests both before and at the time of your event.

  • A DJ can be a fantastic master of ceremonies. A good DJ is a confident, articulate and skilled orator, who is able to make relevant announcements and introductions.

  • A DJ can be the perfect addition. Warble Entertainment’s DJs are happy to work alongside any ancillary entertainment you may already have lined up. They are ideal for creating segue ways ‘into’ and ‘out’ of a Party Bands set and for keeping the ‘groove’ going before, between sets and after the Party Band has finished.

So, now you have the reasons why you should book a DJ, the following outlines how you can find the ‘right’ DJ.

How to book a Wedding DJObviously, the first thing you will want when booking a DJ is to make sure that they are the best possible quality, consummately professional and know how to fill a dance floor! Through Warble Entertainment’s stringent vetting process you can rest assured that this is what you will get. All of Warble Entertainments DJs must provide pictures of past events, lists of previous venues and clients, and client references – all of which can be seen on their individual profiles. In addition to this, all of the DJs must ensure that their equipment is PAT tested so as to comply with The Electricity at Work Act 1989 and that they have adequate Public Liability Insurance (PLi).

Warble Entertainment will only list DJs who are of the highest quality and carry the best equipment, thereby ensuring reliability and fantastic performances.

Now you know that when you book a DJ through Warble Entertainment you will only get the best, you need to narrow down who is right for you? What music do you want played? (All of Warble Entertainment’s DJs are happy to receive requests both before and during your event.) Do you want the DJ to be ‘cheesy’, classic, 70’s themed, 80’s themed... the list goes on. Do you want the DJ to instigate games and be a ‘talker’? Or, would you rather they just skilfully mix and let the evening unfold? A DJs tasks on any given night can be varied and in order to find the ‘right’ one for your event speak to one of Warble Entertainment’s Agents who can offer friendly, impartial advice.

Additionally, take a look at the various packages that each individual DJ offers. This will often help you to see if they perform regularly for weddings, or, if they are more geared up for bars, pubs or nightclubs. The various packages should also aid you in choosing the right set-up for your event as you can be guided by your number of guests, the size of the venue and if you have any specific requirements, such as smoke machines, confetti canons, bubble machines, laser lighting, etc...

So, you should now have a pretty good idea which DJ you are considering booking. But, you call up and get a quote.... ‘How much!’ you say, ‘a guy down the road says he’ll do it for £150’. And, he’s probably telling the truth. But think about it, already you will have established that by booking a DJ through Warble Entertainment they will be:

  • Stringently vetted to ensure reliability, professionalism and experience
  • Fully referenced
  • PAT and PLi covered
  • Versatile and able to offer many extras
  • Carrying only the best possible equipment (with full back-up in case of equipment failure)
  • Backed by Warble Entertainment- meaning that if any problems do arise you will have a team on hand 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support

Will the ‘guy down the road’ have all this? And would it really be worth risking your special day for a few pounds? A higher priced DJ invariably means that they are professional quality, ‘in-demand’ and have fantastic experience and equipment... and wouldn’t this be who you wanted at your event?

A few extra things to remember when booking a Wedding DJ

  • Check your venue has enough space and power! As a general rule a DJ will require about 2 x 2 metres, but this will vary according to how large or small their set-up is.
  • Check with the venue where the DJ can park in relation to the performance area and how easy unloading will be. Lots of stairs or having to park quite a distance away from the performance area could affect the timetable of your event. Make sure that this consideration is discussed with the venue and if necessary ask them to have some helpers for the DJ or trolleys available.
  • Think about the best time for the DJ to arrive and be set-up by, and make sure this fits in with how the venue does things. If the room where the DJ is to perform is the same one where the rest of the day’s events are taking place, think carefully about your timings. Do you need the DJ to set-up earlier in the day- before the meal perhaps? It may incur a little extra cost, but it will mean the ambience of your big day is stress free.
  • Treat the DJ well, keep them fed and watered and make sure they have somewhere comfortable to change.
  • Ensure some preparation for payment of the DJ has been considered before the big day- maybe designate this task to the Best Man?
  • Warble Entertainment represents only the most professional and outstanding Wedding DJs. So, you can rest assured that when booking a Wedding DJ with Warble your event will be one to remember.
