About Ballroom Glitz - 1970s Theme

Is Britain ready for the riotous rock fusion of 70's glam meets Spinal Tap? You decide!

Ballroom Glitz is thrilled to announce that at the start of their 17th year together, live music is still truly alive and kicking!

Last year saw even more legendary festival appearances, including some really rocking events supporting some true 70's icons such as Suzi Quatro, The Rubettes, Lieutenant Pigeon, Showaddywaddy and the most fun of all – Slade’s homecoming gig at the Robin 2 at Bilston! An electric atmosphere!

New fans often comment on the similarity of Ballroom Glitz to The Darkness – they’re flattered but prefer to stick to the truth- they are much nearer to 'sons and daughters' of Queen. Still, all of these bands believed that you can play music to a really high standard and still have some fun!

The band encompasses all the 70's tribute shows in one spectacular party -and it is a totally LIVE show!

The variety of their set is one reason why many people say they love the shows, rockers enjoy the Hawkwind, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper side of the show while the glammy's adore T Rex, Sweet, Mud, Slade and even the Osmonds or The Bay City Rollers!

There is always room for a few smash hit disco tracks: Bee Gees, Grease Medley and more, plus popular stuff from Steve Harley, Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Abba and Queen.

Ballroom Glitz use no backing tapes - even their full length version of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is totally live. They also use no sequencers as they try to use authentic instrumentation from the period.

Scott Hardiman: Frontman Vocals and Rhythm Guitar - Famous for his uncanny rendition of Alice's Schools Out! He has firmly established himself as Hard Rocker of the band, his ever increasing platforms and sexy leather outfits are renowned throughout the corridors of Glam - before his 70's regeneration, Scott toured Spain with the band Undercover, a multi-talented rock band, who also worked extensively in Britain, as did his later upwardly mobile outfit The Business - a group that always gave a good account of themselves. This is Scott's first incarnation as a frontman/ vocalist for a Showband! - Previously Scott played the bass, complete with compulsory miserable, silent look, and standing at the back ability - he was happy to swap this for a Lurex Lunch-box pose, and a lot of glam lipgloss!

Richie MacPherson: Lead Guitar and distant Backing Vocals - Strange and Mysterious! Richie recently arrived in the TARDIS, yet another incarnation of 'The Good Doctor', impressing with his collection of rainbow jumpers, stripey scarves and 'interesting' footwear. He ain't no square with his corkscrew hair, and many of the girlie fans try running their fingers through his lustrous locks to see if this is another 'glam' wig. Complete with brooding, pouty, and mysterious air - there are hidden depths to his personality and recipe book (also being a dab hand in the kitchen). He certainly cooks up some interesting guitar licks (yum!) and adds a new dimension to the backup vocals. Before his trip in the TARDIS, his previous bands include Impakt (the glue-sniffers friends), a Free tribute band, and Gotcha. Richie enthusiastically exchanged ALL his hard earned credibility for a top-deck ticket on the delirious double-decker ride that is Ballroom Glitz!

Lynton Carrier: Drums and Percussion - A founder member of Ballroom Glitz, Lynton was responsible for the original bad taste that gave the band its special flavour! (See his Rollers outfit) Often mistaken for the sex god of the Bay City Rollers - drummer, Derek Longmuir, you can see Lynton surrounded by hoards of panting women, who have long awaited the coming of Derek. He too has played with a myriad of Blues / R'n'B / Rock bands, most notable being the unaccountably strange cult band Pictures In A Dark Room. Also, Bobs Last Band, featuring the notorious Bob Willimot who reneged upon his promise in the bands title, and is still playing to packed houses up and down his street. Many other bands had the benefit of Lyntons expertise, but he could not resist the opportunity to play Queen tracks, Sweet music, and wear spandex leggings.

Val Reiss: Keyboards, Vocals & Pouting - Another original member of Ballroom Glitz who keeps the TARDIS clean as a new pin. Val shocked all those who thought she was just the "Dooley On The Organ" by clambering into her super high platform boots, and sashaying about the stage, proving that all 70's keyboard players do NOT look like the bloke from Sparks! The Sex siren of the band, you often see the Roadcrew forming a human barrier keeping back the clammy hordes from touching the hem of her garment. Val has been involved with bands ever since forming a duo with sister Kathy; these include Friendz, a band that toured Europe, Japan and the Azores together with Jon, Pete and Kathy (Incestuous bunch!). Also, more recently Singled Out, which was started with other original Glitz member Brian Ellison, but Val swapped all that fame to form BG, and get the chance to wear the sequinned jacket that had languished in her wardrobe since 1978!

Pete Jezukiewich: Bass Guitar & Lead Vocals - Once more a member of Ballroom Gitz from birth, The "Doctor" in the TARDIS who keeps the sparkplugs shiny bright, and who inspires with crazy inventions to make their trips more interesting! E.g. Collapsing waste bin holder, surprise self-lowering loading ramp, joke wobbly fan, etc.  Pete was as surprised as anyone when he suddenly found himself singing lead, puckering up those shiny, glossed lips and making the guitarist out of Mud look macho!!! His first ever outfit was Kidderminster punk band "The Screaming Toys" and he went on to play with various college rock bands and R'n'B combos, including Bobs Last Band, Frendz, The Starving Rascals and others. Pete played many styles from Rock to Punk until he was lassoed by the lycra and sequins, compelling him to set the course of the TARDIS to the 1970's.

Kathy Donovan: Vocals & Avant-Garde Percussion - A passenger in the TARDIS from the beginning, Kathy is responsible for the Ballroom Glitz trademark pyro-tacknics, all driven along by her love of Music Hall sing-along, Vaudeville, Big Top circus, Sound Of Music, Sunday Night At The London Palladium, Eurovision type things! She entered the TARDIS from the planet "Showbiz Luvvie", having done stints with Val on the organ, City Lights, Frendz, Toot and The Finks and others too unimportant to mention! Trip through the back catalogue of Lindisfarne, Donovan, Tyrannorsaurus Rex, James Taylor and Motown Greats to find her real musical roots, which she transplanted willingly into the warped mirrorball that is Ballroom Glitz!

Ballroom Glitz are able to perform one cabaret hour, one and half hours straight through (usually for rock venues), or 2 x 45 minutes with encore if requested.

The band also automatically tailors their sets to the type of venue. For example, a rock venue will get the rockier end of material - Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, Alice Cooper, plus all the general glam rock greats.

A cabaret style venue will get the more melodic pop/ glam - Bay City Rollers, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, Grease Medley, Bee Gees, plus T-Rex, Queen, Slade, and so on...

A dancing audience will get more of the disco material - K C and the Sunshine Band, Boney M, Village People, etc..

And then, if the audience is a real mixture - so is the set!

It is all 70's dress in glam gear and all the music is totally live with lots to watch and join in with!
