About Mariachi Mexteca - Mariachi Act

The name MEXTECA came from a fusion of old and new with a play on the words ‘Mexico’ and ‘Azteca’. Mexteca maintains the unique traditional style of the original Mariachi and have proudly presented the vibrant and cheerful sound to audiences throughout the United Kingdom.

Salvador's earliest recollection of becoming interested in music was at the age of six when he used to accompany his father to the many parties and gigs that he performed at. He watched his father play the guitar and would later pick the guitar up himself and copy what his father had played. As he grew up he taught himself other instruments and began playing on occasions with his father and other small bands.

Upon leaving preparatory school, Salvador went to the Guadalajara School of Music where he obtained a Bachelor and later Masters in Music. He played at several gigs and parties in Guadalajara, until 1997 when he had the opportunity to go with his band to Hong Kong. There he played at many folkloric presentations, concerts and parties within Hong Kong, Macau and China until in 2000, when he left Hong Kong to live in the UK.

He sings the lead vocals in Mexteca but also plays many instruments including the guitar, guitarron, vihuela, and accordion.

Please note Mariachi Mexteca are an acoustic act, however a PA system can be hired at additional cost.

Mariachi Mexteca - Mariachi Act Previous Clients

Mexteca have appeared in a number of cultural and folkloric festivals throughout the UK. They have entertained at many Premier and BAFTA parties where they have performed in front of British and Hollywood celebrities, such as Mick Jagger, Hugh Grant, Leonardo Dicaprio, John Malcovich, Benicio Del Torro and Dustin Hoffman to name but a few.

Other venues include numerous private parties and charity functions such as the fund raising Gala for the Royal Academy of Arts in front of stars such as Elton John and Sting. Also, members of the Royal family have attended.

Having played for various organisations such as The British Mexican Society, Mexico Amigo, Anglo Latin American Foundation (ALAF), Mexico Gallery and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, numerous people have enjoyed the sound of Mexteca at private parties and functions, including: birthday and Christmas parties, office parties, university parties, weddings and funerals.

Tracey, what can I say! The guys were a totally professional band. They arrived in plenty of time and so were able to discuss the layout of the venue and how they would perform. They produced 2 fantastic sets, the first being the more romantic and moody arrangements and the second very lively which had everyone present up and dancing. Of course La Bamba is always a favourite but the bands performance was electric. At my request they finished with Guantanamera which is a particular favourite, needless to say I wasn't disappointed. The guys gave us a fabulous evening and I was pleased that I opted for the 5 piece. With regard to yourselves, Great web site with clear information, Easy booking procedure, Confirmation call beforehand to check everything was OK, the band were everything I expected. So, I think I can say that I struggle to find any faults and will be pleased to use the Agency again.

This was a party organised with extremely short notice and Salvador agreed to play during the drinks party to entertain our guests. The band were absolutely fantastic, judging the mood of the evening perfectly. They provided the perfect backdrop to an evening based around the exhibition of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and even managed to get some of our corporate guests to dance along to the music.
