If you need a bagpiper for a wedding, party or any other function in the Lancashire, Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside areas, then Alan is the artist for you! Alan started playing at the age of 7 and by 9 was competing with the Chorley Pipe Band travelling the length and breadth of England and Scotland.
Under the pupilage of Joe Swarbrick and the late George Walkingshaw, brother of Bob Walkingshaw, the founding Pipe Major of Chorley Pipe Band, Alan has taken part in many contests, including all the major championships, such as the World Championship in Glasgow and the Dunoon Cowal Championship. Competing since the age of 9 Alan has maintained a standard of bagpiping to satisfy people’s needs and expectations.
Alan has recently also appeared in Coronation Street!
As a Wedding Day Piper Alan is able to provide a traditional highland experience and offers 3 styles of dress for the occasion:
• A black jacket with Fraser ancient hunting tartan
• A blue or navy jacket with the Macbeth modern tartan
• A Macleod of Harris ancient hunting tartan
Alan offers the following possibilities when performing at a wedding.
Before the ceremony - Alan is able to perform while guests arrive for the wedding ceremony, generally this can be anything between a 10 - 30 minutes session.
During the ceremony - Alan can escort the bride down the aisle and also play a short tune for the signing of the register if required.
After the ceremony - Alan is able to lead the happy couple out of the ceremony and play for a little while as guests are leaving.
If required, Alan is also able to then make his way to the reception venue where he will blend into the background during the drinks reception playing more upbeat and novelty tunes.
Reception meal - A piper will then traditionally play for the line up before proceeding to pipe the bride and groom to the head table once everyone is seated.
Below are some of the options that Alan offers:
Option A: The Church
This includes piping guests into church, piping the bride down the aisle (if required), playing while the registry is being signed (if required), leading the bride and groom out of church and piping the guests out of church.
Option B: The Reception
This includes piping the guests into the venue, playing in the bar prior to the meal, piping for the line up going into the meal and piping the bride and groom to the head table.
Option C: One venue Weddings (i.e. a hotel or golf club)
This includes most of A and B although specific requirements vary somewhat for different weddings.

Gemma Hume, 60th Wedding Anniversary
Thank you so much for playing last Friday at my Nana and Granddad’s 60th Wedding Anniversary. We would definitely recommend you! It was a total surprise for them and they were both absolutely delighted. It really made the night special both for them and all the rest of the family, some of whom had travelled down from Edinburgh the night before. Everyone commented on how good you were and the football songs went down especially well with my uncles.
Jeannine & George, 70th Party
Alan what can I say you made my dad’s 70th birthday so special! and at such short notice. The whole family can’t thank you enough, as you could see my dad was chuffed to bits and would of had you there all night if he could. I will get the pictures for you as well, and I thought I would tell you the cook didn’t get beat up he got a telling off instead. And when I get married you will be my first port of call! thanks again Alan it was great.
Mareth and Fraser Macmillan, Wedding
Dear Alan, thank you so much for being a part of Alastair and Nicola’s special day. The wedding was a great success and your part in it made it truly memorable. All the guests, particularly those from north of the border were thrilled to be piped in to the reception and Alastair was so surprised and delighted when he emerged from the church to hear the pipes! Thank you once again.
