One entertainer much in demand is Jim, the caricaturist who, as well as preparing studio portraits from photographs for books, magazines, calendars and special presentations is also one of only a handful of caricaturists who love to work live, inviting onlookers to watch the progress of his amusing portraits over his shoulder - an ideal way of Drawing a Crowd!
In addition to performing at Royal Command for His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei, he has worked on TV, in hotels and restaurants, exhibition halls and museums, golf courses and race courses, ballrooms and river boats, a castle and Dickens & Jones' shop window in Regent Street!
Don't believe Jim when he tells you that his life as one of the country's most successful quick-draw caricature artists is a bed of roses.
Even though he has recently worked at the beautiful Blackheath Golf Club, the historic Assembly Rooms in Bath, on board the sumptuous Silver Sturgeon, on Brighton Pier, at Ascot and on the magnificent Monkey Island, for Jim life has both its UPS (for instance working on the 17th floor Penthouse Suite of New Zealand House which commands the best possible view of central London) and DOWNS (deep down in the capitals sewers!).
Jim was booked by Metro Rod to "draw a crowd" to their stand for three days at Olympia. They have already rebooked him for the next year and between times employed him to entertain a group partaking of a Sewer Walk at the Thames Water Bow Depot.
In the coming few weeks Jim will be performing on the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious before driving up to the Silverstone Circuit to entertain guests at the British Grand Prix - not with his driving you understand, but with his pen. He then flies off for a job on the Isle of Man returning to take part in a fly-on-the-wall TV documentary and a Medieval Ball working in full fancy dress.
Jim now offers an additional service to clients - a masterclass workshop. Using his vast experience as a teacher, he outlines the history of caricature with examples and demonstrates his skills "talking through" his methods as he draws. In no time he has everyone drawing portraits of those around them with great hoots of laughter. The session finishes with a Question and Answer opportunity before each person is sent off clutching their drawings and a keepsake specially prepared by Jim.
If you are already a household name, you are probably already on Jim's client list. If you are not, you could be...
