Black Cadillac star in Paolo Sorrentino Film ‘Youth’

Last year, one of our bands, Black Cadillac were lucky enough to be asked to appear in the new Paolo Sorrentino film ‘‘Youth’ (which premiered at The London Film Festival recently month). The film boasts big stars with the likes of Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel and Jane Fonda so we were over the moon for them to be chosen from thousands of bands to be part of something so big. Check out the trailer for the film with Black Cadillac’s title track with 15 million views!

They have kindly shared some pictures of their experience with us below:

When the director first approached for this, we were a little confused as to why he had chosen a British band to be flown out to Switzerland above all the bands across Switzerland and Europe but when we arrived on set it started to become clear. They loved the sound of the band (as they probably did with many other bands) but Black Cadillac had an image that perfectly fit with the theme of the film. Director Paolo Sorrentino loved the 1960s style we had, and when searching on the internet he found our promotional material for Real Gone Retro – (the sister band to Black Cadillac) and wanted to recreate the scene in the film. The film crew had a sofa, lamp and props on set in Flims resort, Switzerland that was an exact copy of the props in our video (filmed at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool).

Famous and controversial scene from the film with Harvey Keitel and Michael Caine. This scene was talked about a lot on set!

(Left) Parr Street Studios in Liverpool, the base for many touring bands such as Coldplay, Doves, Embrace, Badly Drawn Boy. Very kitsch and retro with 1970s leather sofas and lamps amongst other authentic items. (right) the set on ‘Youth’. Although the rotating glass stage is different, the 1970s leather sofa and lamps made it onto set, as well as all the vintage instruments they hired for us to use.

Thank you Paul, it sounds like an incredible experience and we look forward to seeing the film!
