Charley and Nicholas Wedding with Gentlemen Of The Road

Reka Choy Wedding Photographer, Real Wedding in Essex

Charley and Nicholas booked Gentlemen Of The Road for their wedding at West Middlesex Golf Club this summer and have kindly shared the highlights of their big along with some great advice for other couples with us.

What was your best single moment of the whole day?

Exchanging our vows, I was so excited, we laughed the whole way through the ceremony. My son gave a reading and presented the rings. It was not just about us getting married but us becoming a family.

Real Wedding Ceremony - Vows

Why did you pick your venue?

My mum is a member of the Golf Club, it was wonderful, her friends helped in the lead up by planting flowers, decorating and making the venue beautiful. Some friends also helped dress the venue on the morning. As there was an existing relationship everyone went out of their way to help us and make our vision come to life.

How did you hear about the band?

We did a lot of googling, then we came across Warble Entertainment and when we heard the band’s music on the website we knew we had found the right band – they had exactly the right sound, vibe and look.

What did they bring to your day?

The guys were fantastic! We had a call with Craig about a week before the wedding and he put us at ease, he asked exactly the right questions and we finished the conversation knowing that he “got it” and knew what we wanted. On the day the guys were friendly and easy to have around, they were set-up on time and then they played a set which got people up dancing. As it was a hot day a lot of people were outside and they sounded great as background music for those not wanting to be in the main room. They really helped make it a great, buzzy, fun day!

Did you have a first dance song and what was it?

We didn’t have a first dance, we had a Bride V Groom “Song Off” where we both chose five songs each, it was great fun.

Where did you draw inspiration or find suppliers for your wedding?

We thought a lot about what we wanted from our day and we decided that we wanted the whole day to be a reflection of us. We are really casual people so we did away with a sit down meal and decided to have an afternoon tea followed by two live bands and a DJ with an evening BBQ.

Real Wedding Breakfast - Afternoon Tea

Once we decided on the sort of day we wanted we brainstormed and thought of touches that would make the day more personal. Family is really important to us so we had 500 photographs printed in a retro style and then we pegged them up on string around the venue. We also wanted to nod to Nick’s heritage, his mother is Irish, so we booked an Irish band and also made a sign inviting people to enjoy a pint of Guinness with us. My dad is a Pride drinker so we made a sign inviting people to have a pint of pride on us too. My mum is a great baker so made all the cakes for us on the day for afternoon tea, and our wedding cake too. We have friends that offer services we needed, Reka Choy our Photographer is a family friend and another friend, Kat Lynch, makes jewellery so we asked them to be involved, it makes our photos and rings even more special.

Real Wedding decoration ideas - Polaroid pictures

We are both a bit quirky, so we had a glow-stick table and props for the dance floor (there is a video of me during one of my songs during the song off, I am strutting my stuff on the dance floor with a blow up ghetto blaster and flamingo glasses!!). We also wanted our guests to be comfortable so bought toiletry baskets for the toilets, flip flops for the dance floor, blankets for when it got chilly in the evening and hangover kits for people to take on the way out. Instead of centre pieces we had jars of sweeties and a big steel bucket full of our favourite drinks. The wine, champagne and prosecco served were specifically selected and are wines that we personally enjoy, and my cousin Lexi works for Majestic made an introduction.

Pinterest gave me a few ideas, like signage and hangover kits. I pinched all the great bits from other weddings and events I have been to. Google helped me locate good local suppliers, and approaching friends who have specific skill sets was invaluable.

What did you think of the service provided by Warble?

It was brilliant – helpful, friendly and efficient from the beginning. I received just the right amount of information, enough for my mind to be at rest and not so much that it overwhelmed me!

Looking back is there anything you would change?

I would have limited my drinking early on in the day, my poor husband had to escort his drunken wife home when there was still an hour to go!

Best piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding?

Think about who you are, and then think about how you can reflect that in everything you do. Pour your heart in to the wedding. Invest your time and do jobs properly, when everything comes together on the day and you see everyone enjoying themselves the feeling is amazing.
