We all know how important choosing a great band for a wedding is. The right band, mixed with the atmosphere of the occasion, will provide an unforgettable soundtrack to the day. There is one song on that soundtrack though, that’s a little bit more special than the rest and we are, of course, referring to the first dance.
With the 2015 wedding season starting to get into full swing, some couples ready to be hitched will already know which first dance song they’d like, some will still be trying to compromise and some might be finding it quite divisive… Yes, it really can be that important to some couples!
Be sure to check out our new list of 100 alternative first dance tracks!
We’ve checked in with some of our most popular acts to gain some insight as to which first dance songs are proving to be most popular with them at the moment and hopefully help provide some inspiration if you are struggling to choose.
The MP3’s will be providing the band entertainment at weddings up and down the UK this summer and Dan, the band leader has already been receiving first dance requests from brides and grooms.
“I think last year, our most popular song was The Lumineers ‘Ho Hey’. We’ve had interesting choices and perhaps one of our favourites was a first dance we were asked to do, which was The Smashing Pumpkins ‘Tonight, Tonight’ – which all the band really enjoyed playing.”
Obviously, different styles of band will have different requests and amongst swing bands, such as Gary and the Swing Kings, timeless classics such as ‘Fly me to the Moon’ and ‘Can’t Take my Eyes Off You’ are still amongst the popular choices.
Maria, who fronts The Beggars Jazz Band also agrees that the classics are amongst the top requests for the jazz band.
“Etta James ‘At Last’ is always a really popular choice and not far behind is Ben E King’s ‘Stand By Me'”.
Maria also works as a solo vocalist and the choices seem to be a little more contemporary when she performs as Maria Sings.
“‘Your Song’ by Ellie Goulding is often requested, as is Adele’s ‘Make You Feel My Love’, but the most popular first dance request by far at the moment is John Legend’s ‘All Of Me’.”
In agreement with this is Mark from Jukebox Nights.
“It was probably the most requested track of last summer and is still going strong. There are first dance requests that are timeless and “You Do Something To Me” by Paul Weller has always been a favourite – both in choice and for the band to play”.
Sam from Jam Side Down already has a long list of songs to learn for weddings in 2015 and has a strong contender for this year’s most requested.
“We’ve already been getting a lot of requests for first dances and 2015 definitely looks like being the year of the Sheeran.”
Most of Warble’s bands will be happy to learn a first dance request for you providing enough notice is given and it fits the style of the band. If you already have a certain song or style in mind, Warble can help to find the perfect band to bring your chosen song to life on the day to give you and your guests a moment to cherish forever.
