INTERVIEW with The Indie Killers

March 28 2011
A Day in the Life of The Indie Killers uk band wedding ideas wedding band

We caught up with Damo, one of the vocalists and the bass player, from The Indie Killers to grab a few words and get a little insight into the goings on and crazy shenanigans with him and the guys!

  • Tell us a little about The Indie Killers band
The Indie Killers are a power trio playing all the best modern music from Indie rock bands like Kings of Leon, The Killers, and Stereophonics to pop hits like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. We get to travel all over the world playing great music to people who appreciate it. It just doesn’t get better!
  • What inspired you to start The Indie Killers ?
3 friends just wanting to play together. We got a gig at a uni party and 2 years later we never expected to be playing stadiums, and celebrity parties.
  • What do you enjoy most about your job?
Everything! Playing great music, meeting new people and making new friends, making video’s. We really appreciate how lucky we are to do this for a living.
  • What has been the best moment so far?
Wow so many! We do love the stadium gigs, 20,000 people singing along while on Sky Sports is awesome. But the next night when you’re playing to 50 people and they are jumping around, shouting requests and asking for pictures is just as much fun. That feeling is why we do this.
  • What are your plans for the future?
We are working on an Indie Killers album (as we get asked for them on every gig) to be released in the next few months. We have so many gigs coming up, it’s hard to find the time but we have lots of ideas to make Indie Killers bigger and better. It’s all about the show and world domination moo ha ha ha!
  • What’s the funniest thing that has happened at an event?
Touring Europe was funny, we have some footage of us in Poland, stopped at a roadside ‘service station’ with burgers served in a mug. The burger was green, with yellow sauce and a lot of cabbage. Didn’t stop Luke though! Let’s just say Berlin the next day saw its fair share of toilet stops!
  • What’s the most embarrassing moment?
Luke was crowd surfing on a crowd of 1000 people and when he reached a small girl she dropped him on the floor. Painful and embarrassing but Tom and me thought it was hilarious!
  • What is the biggest request you get at events?
    Luke’s telephone number!
  • Can you give us a ‘Typical day in the life of….’?
Always start with breakfast, it’s the most important meal of the day. We have a great team around us, Warble Entertainment has been amazing and we are now exclusive with them because there is nobody better. We can work together on ideas and be creative for continual improvement.  We are all in contact every day to ensure that things run smoothly. We started off as a few guys jumping around in a living room and now it’s a pretty big operation. We have an office, studio and studio schedule’s, guys who service our gear. We are constantly doing photo shoots, video’s and then we’re on the road every week playing all over the country!
  • What advice would you give to anyone booking the band?
The best advice I can give is when planning your event, work backwards from the end of the night. Don’t have a long break in between the band sets (20-30 mins is fine) and even though it goes against what feels right before the event, don’t start the band too early, they won’t thank you for it and neither will the crowd as they wont be ready. If you are unsure just ask the guys who deal with this every day.
  • Final message?
Thanks to everyone who has supported us and if you haven’t seen us yet then what are you waiting for! See you on the Road…..

BIG THANKS to Damo for taking the time out to speak to us.
