Mel and Steve’s Summer Scarborough Wedding with The Kickstarts

September 11 2018

Mel and Steve’s summer wedding in Scarborough, North Yorkshire features everything we love in a wedding and more. Great weather, fabulous Tipi’s, awesome live music and stunning scenery to name a few. They have kindly provided some of their favourite moments from the day as well as some useful tips for any other soon to be newlyweds!

What was your best single moment of the whole day?

Mel: Dancing to one of my favourite songs later in the day and glancing around to see all of our friends and family on the dance floor smiling and dancing. Like being in a nightclub but actually seeing everyone you love in there – it was amazing.

Steve: I would say the best single moment of the day was when I saw Mel walking up the aisle and I realised I was grinning uncontrollably. Without doubt it was the best moment of my life so far!

Why did you pick your venue?

It was very unique and the setting was perfect with so many surrounding fields for photographs. The bar is a converted stables which we loved and the giant Tipi’s are so spacious and cosy! To get a Tipi wedding as a package was great. It took away all the stress from us and the team at The Barn are brilliant.

Did you have a specific style or theme for your big day?

Simple and rustic, but a lot was based on the King of Hammers (A massive off-road desert race in California). Our table plan was the King of Hammers race course and tables were named after sections of the race. Our cake was stood on a tyre from Steve’s own Kit car, and our guest book was a tyre to sign with messages – which we are making into a coffee table.

How did you hear about the act?

We were looking at a few bands and had already got a quote from The Kickstarts then we went to a friends wedding and they were playing as their wedding band. Everyone loved them and the dance floor was always full – just what we needed!

What did they bring to your day?

Steve: A great atmosphere for everyone there. Even my 84 year old grandmother was dancing all night!

Did you have a first dance song and what was it?

Frank Turner – Hits and Mrs.

Where did you draw inspiration or find suppliers for your wedding?

I went to a couple of wedding fayres and picked up a few magazines but mostly through googling suppliers, reading reviews and booking through Facebook! All our suppliers were brilliant but our campervan, Something Blue Camper VW hire was brilliant. From booking Jamie to him getting us everywhere in perfect time on the wedding day and being such a nice guy – I couldn’t recommend him enough.

Also our cake maker Gemma from Cotton House Cakes was amazing. From tasting the samples of each tier (Lemon Drizzle, Victoria Sponge, and White Chocolate and Raspberry) at her house over a cup of tea to finalise everything, to the amazing wedding cake on the day. Just exactly how I imagined it to be.

What did you think of the service provided by Warble?

Warble have been so friendly and professional the whole way through our booking which was almost 2 years in advance, we got reminder emails every now and then just confirming everything was still fine which was reassuring and options of how to pay as it got closer to the day. Thank you!

Best piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding?

Mel: Make sure you chose the right band and photographer to suit your style. At the end of the day it’s your wedding, nobody else’s. We chose the music we wanted, with a little help from The Kickstarts! Our photographer Matt from M and G Photographic was absolutely amazing. We met him back in April for our pre wedding shoot in Scarborough and it instantly felt so natural letting Matt take our photo. We almost forgot he was there on the wedding day he blended in so well. We got some amazing shots, I just wish we could do it all over again.

Steve: The day itself goes so quickly. We got married at 1pm and I wish we had an extra couple of hours on the night, so don’t book your wedding too late in the day.

Looking back is there anything you would change?

Mel: No, I think everything went to plan we loved every minute!

Steve: No I wouldn’t change anything, but I wish the day lasted that little bit longer as it just flew by.
