Michelle & Josh’s Rustic Vintage Wedding With The Four Right Chords

Bride & Groom

Michelle and Josh booked The Four Right Chords as their evening band at their Tipi Wedding in Heysham and have kindly shared their highlights along with great planning tips and advice for other couples.

What was your best single moment of the whole day?

It’s so hard to choose! Seeing Josh for the first time at the altar, and saying our vows stands out in my mind.

Bride and Groom Ceremony

Why did you pick your venue?

Our venue was three giant tipis on the village cricket field. We wanted to keep our wedding local to our home village of Heysham, Lancashire but there weren’t really any venues close by. We wanted to keep it simple for our guests; we got married in the village church overlooking the Lake District, and we wanted our guests to be able to walk through the village to the reception rather than drive elsewhere! We also aren’t really “fancy hotel” type people, having tipis felt more relaxed and more ‘us’.

Bride and Groom in the Church

Heysham Cricket Club holds a place in our hearts – Josh’s Grandad played there all his life, Josh played there in his youth and his Dad is now the club chairman. The family history means that we feel a connection to the place and have spent a lot of time there so for us it was the only place to hold our wedding reception.

Wedding Tipi

Did you have a specific style or theme for your big day?

The styling was rustic, lots of jam jars and crates of wild flowers and fairy lights, tea lights and bunting galore. We didn’t want a stuffy 3-course meal so had afternoon tea on vintage crockery with glasses of fizz. We gave guests a mini bottle of our home-made rhubarb gin and Josh’s mum made bunting and scones. There was also a hint of a cricket theme (of course!) – our venue was styled with vintage cricket equipment, we had mini stumps and cricket balls on our centrepieces and our seating plan was in the style of a cricket scoreboard.

Wedding Decoration

How did you hear about the act?

We actually left it quite late to book a band, so I asked Warble to suggest some bands that were available on our date and on budget. We were really impressed by The Four Right Chords, we liked that they were a four piece and their videos looked good, so we decided to book them.

Wedding Evening Dance Floor

What did they bring to your day?

They were amazing – a real highlight of the day! I was a little nervous about booking a band via the internet having never heard them play live before (there’s nothing worse than an empty dance floor at a party!) but I needn’t have worried. Their repertoire of songs was great, and they even allowed me to approve their playlist and make alterations ahead of the night. People were dancing from beginning to end, and the dance floor was packed all night. The band also DJ’d between sets which took away the worry and hassle of having to book a separate DJ.

Wedding Guests Dancing

Afterwards, guests commented on how great the band were and a couple of people in the village even stopped us afterwards to say our band was great and they’d had their windows open listening to them!

Wedding Guests Dancing

Did you have a first dance song and what was it?

Beforehand we were adamant we didn’t want a first dance. The thought of awkwardly shuffling round while everyone gathered round and stared at us made us shudder! However, on the day we ended up having an impromptu first dance (of sorts) completely by accident to I bet that You Look Good on the Dance Floor by Arctic Monkeys –  played excellently by The Four Right Chords! I’d mentioned in communication with the band beforehand that they are our favourite band, so they added this into the set for us. It was perfect and again, much more ‘us’ than a slushy song!

Where did you draw inspiration or find suppliers for your wedding?

We had very clear ideas about what we liked/didn’t like and how we wanted our day to look and feel. We went to a few local wedding fairs and met most of our suppliers in person there. I then spent a lot of time on Pinterest and with the help of my florist/event stylist pieced everything together.

What did you think of the service provided by Warble?

Warble were great, Adam put together a really helpful list of bands for us to choose from, all of which were really high quality and appropriate for our event/needs. The booking process was really easy and communication was good in the run up to the event.

They were also not as pushy as other agencies I tried. Some called/text me constantly which I found really irritating and off-putting.

Best piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding?

Your day will be perfect, don’t stress the small things – no one will even notice anything that doesn’t go to plan on the day. Enjoy it and try and take it all in.

Bride Groom Dog

Looking back is there anything you would change?

Our day was perfect, there’s nothing we’d change. I wish I could just go back and tell myself not to worry, stress or be nervous!!!!
