Lisa and James booked The Kickstarts as their evening wedding band for their wedding at Oulton Hall in Leeds and have kindly shared their highlights along with great planning tips and advice for other couples.
What was your best single moment of the whole day?
Bride: My favourite moment from our wedding day was when the doors opened before I walked down the aisle and we saw each other for the first time that day. It was a very emotional start to the ceremony for both of us as all the anticipation had led up to that point.
Groom: My favourite moment was the same, but another great moment was also when we sat down to the wedding breakfast and we could see both sides of the family all together and enjoying themselves.
Why did you pick your venue?
We picked the venue because we wanted the beautiful outdoor scenery for our photographs in addition to the fact that they had stunning rooms that were the perfect size for the number of guests at our wedding. The cost was fantastic for the quality of food and service we received on the day.
Did you have a specific style or theme for your big day?
We didn’t have a specific theme for our day; we wanted it to be more relaxed. Even with regards to the colours and dresses for the wedding party we went for complementary colours and styles so that everyone felt comfortable.
How did you hear about the act?
We found the Kickstarts through the Warble entertainment website and with the help of the team at Warble. We knew the style of music we wanted and there was lots of helpful information such as the setlists, videos and reviews to help us decide.
What did they bring to your day?
The band were one of the highlights of our day. All of our guests were hugely complimentary of the music and the atmosphere they created for us. The party started from the very first song and our guests were up and dancing right away up until the last song of the night. Being able to pick and choose a few songs from the set list made it more personal to us. I was able to dance with my father to the Black Keys, a band we both love.
Did you have a first dance song and what was it?
Our first dance song was The One by Kodaline.
Where did you draw inspiration or find suppliers for your wedding?
We went to a couple of wedding fayres for ideas and that’s how we met Anne Baker from Silk Floral Art who made our flowers. Our other suppliers we found through a lot of searching on the internet, including our photographer Mark Hillyer who captured our day exactly how we wanted it with his candid, more natural style of photography.
What did you think of the service provided by Warble?
The service provided by Chris at Warble was incredibly helpful and professional. He was enthusiastic about helping us find an available act that was the right style for us. Once we’d found the act I felt confident that everything would be arranged which made planning for our day much less stressful.
Best piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding?
Our advice for anyone planning their wedding is to think about everything they want from their day and then narrow it down to what is most important to them, which for us was the venue (which included the food) and having an amazing band for the party.
Looking back is there anything you would change?
There isn’t anything we would change about the day, except maybe to have had fewer cupcakes! We had so many spares at the end of the night that delicious as they were we couldn’t finish them before the honeymoon.
