Southampton-based Barn Dance and Ceilidh band Woodsiders are experienced in entertaining at all types of function from club/work socials to wedding receptions, festivals and fundraisers. The band provides plenty of fun through traditional barn dance, with a caller to guide guests through all the dances, so even beginners can get involved and have a ball! Playing a mixture of English, Irish, Scottish and American styles of music, the group have performed at venues both small and large. For example, in village halls to less than 100 guests right up to the Bournemouth International Centre for over 2,000!

We had a great time! The guys arrived in good time, were very good natured about our timings and played beautifully as the guests arrived. The caller then got people up and dancing before they could get too comfortable and prove resistant, which worked really well. We were terrible dancers but enjoyed it immensely. All ages joined in and had a whale of a time but if you were to ask me how to strip a willow today, I would have no real idea how it all came together!! The caller's patience was immense.... We give you a bespoke price based on the exact location of your event. The pricing below is based on a central location for your area so you have an idea of what your price will be. The exact price will be given in the booking process after you’ve provided the location details.
How long to we play for?
We recommend 2 ‘sets’ of dancing of around 1 to 1.5 hours each. We do 1 or 2 dances at a time, with a short piece of interlude music before the next dance(s). If your guests are really enthusiastic, then we can do more dances together.
How do you explain the dances to beginners?
All our dances are easy to pick up, and our caller will ‘walk’ your guests through the dance before we do it to music. Each dance lasts around 3 to 5 minutes, including the quick walk through.
What space do the band need?
We can usually adapt our band setup for the space available. Ideally, an area of 5m x 2m is comfortable. A stage, if available, does help the caller.
Do you have your own sound system?
Yes, we come with our own PA (Public Address System). All our electrical items have a current PAT certificate which is available for inspection on request.
Do you have lighting?
We do not have stage lighting.
What are your electrical requirements?
1 x 13amp socket
Do you require food and drink?
This is not a booking requirement, but many of our clients do provide this and it is always gratefully received, if available.
Do you play outdoors?
We often play for summer outdoor events. Please provide a weatherproof playing area for the band with staging or other form of protection from any grass. A paved patio with a gazebo is ideal. A reliable supply of mains electricity is essential.
