What is wedding entertainment?

Remember that entertainment can be absolutely anything! Living Statues, Caricaturists, Magicians, Live Bands and so much more. Anything that can keep guests entertained and amused throughout the day can be utilised so make sure you take a good look at all of the amazing entertainment options available to you to make your day really stand out.

The importance of wedding entertainment

You might be thinking, “is getting entertainment for my wedding really that important?”. Well we can tell you right now that yes it really is!

Okay so take a second right now and imagine your wedding day with no entertainment whatsoever. Where’s the fun? Where’s the party? The entertainment choices you make can change a good wedding in to an absolutely outstanding one. It can also be a great icebreaker between family members who have not met yet and set the tone for the whole day.

Not only that but it can leave a lasting impression on your guests, and they will remember your wedding for years to come!

Some top tips

Book early – This one is so important and we cannot stress this enough! The earlier you book, the more chance you have of getting your first, and best choice on entertainment. Many of the best acts out there will be booked a year or maybe two in advance, especially if your wedding date is a popular one. You can also save some money by booking early as the acts prices are still not updated for the year of your wedding!

Venue checklistThere are a number of things you can check with the venue to ensure that the entertainment you are booking is suitable, and also to make sure everything runs smoothly on the day. Stage space and dance floor space are big ones. You don’t want to book a 6 piece band and then realise you only have a tiny stage to put them on! Power and electricity are important too. Acts will tell you upon booking how many power outlets they require to perform for you. And lastly if you’ve booked a band, check if the venue has a sound limiter and if the band can still work with it.

Budget – You want to be realistic with your budget. At the same time sayings such as, “pay peanuts get monkeys” exist for a reason! There are many ways to make your budget stretch when booking entertainment. Look for acts that offer free add-ons or extras to their package upon booking. A common one is bands also offering a DJ set included, so you don’t have to spend extra on a DJ as well as a band for your evening.

What to look for

To make sure you get the right act for you and your wedding, you need to know what kind of things to look out for when searching for entertainment. You will want your act to be as professional as possible, so how can we distinguish a professional act or entertainer from a not so professional one?

A good place to start is any references or feedback the act has. Look at what people are saying! Is it good? Are the band consistently rocking weddings and filling dance floors? Is the magician leaving guests stunned? It can also give you a really good idea about what to expect from the act on the day, leaving you to feel more confident in your entertainment delivering.

You will want to look at how much the act have invested in themselves. This means images, songs, setlists, their bio, videos and any other promotional material they have! It can show attention to detail and really shows that the act have put a lot into solidifying themselves as a professional act.

Book something, and book early!

We hope you are a bit more clued up now about where to start with wedding entertainment. And remember, don’t leave it up to chance to let your guests entertain themselves! Entertainment can go such a long way to making your wedding day a special one. And of course when you do find something you like, snatch them up quick before someone else does!
