Holly and Charlie’s Brighton Bandstand Wedding with The Mixtape

Real Wedding Blog Live Band Dancing Dance Floor

Holly and Charlie booked The Mixtape for their stunning Brighton Bandstand wedding and have kindly provided their beautiful photos and a great insight along with tips for couples currently organising their big day.

What was your best single moment of the whole day?

Due to the weather, the location of our wedding changed at the last minute. Leading up to the day, we knew this was a possibility and were warned that if this happened, not all of our guests would fit and unfortunately some people would have to miss the ceremony. I was told the venue would need to change about an hour before I was due to arrive and all I could think about was our poor guests, especially those who had travelled far to share our special day. When I arrived at the venue, the registrar came to speak to me and before she could say anything, I asked “where is everyone?” She happily told me that they had to managed to squeeze all my guests into the venue and everyone was excitedly waiting for me to walk down the aisle. I cannot put into words the relief that I felt once she said that! It was such an intimate venue and was so beautifully decorated, especially with the last minute relocation, and I actually preferred the venue after all. This moment was made even more special, when I made it to the end of the aisle and saw my husband to be waiting for me. All the changes, all the hiccups, didn’t amount to anything at that moment.

Why did you pick your venue?

I never wanted to get married in a church; I am not a religious person so therefore I didn’t feel that this would be appropriate for me. From a young age, I had always like the idea of getting married on The Bandstand and the venue just suited both of us so well. We considered other options once we got engaged and started to go the wedding fayres but we always came back to this idea and so it stuck.

How did you hear about the band?

I did a lot of research online for wedding entertainment. Originally, I was looking for a DJ but then the idea of having a band came up and was definitely more appealing. Warble Entertainment came up when I looked for local bands and whilst searching through the wide selection of options, I came across The Mixtape. Their playlist is pretty much identical to ours and the reviews were outstanding.

What did they bring to your day?

The band were brilliant at bringing our guests together and definitely made the night. We go to a lot of gigs and we really wanted to create that kind of atmosphere at our reception and The Mixtape did exactly that. Over a month after the day and people are still commenting on how great the setlist was and how amazing the band were! To sum it up, they helped make the day a memorable one.

Did you have a first dance song and what was it?

Our first dance was Coldplay – Green Eyes.

Where did you draw inspiration or find suppliers for your wedding?

I drew my inspiration from friends who are married; I think you are going to get honest and useful advice from people who have been there and done that! They also know you and know what you need to know and what you are going to need help with. I also used Instagram for a lot of my style inspiration – @stylemepretty @perfectweddingmagazine @greenweddingshoes and @weddingwire are a few of my favourites.

What did you think of the service provided by Warble?

Warble were brilliant throughout the whole process. Niki Edge, who responded to my first enquiry, dealt with my every question, query and concern with promptness and professionalism. She was also super nice, kind and friendly; I really enjoyed working with Niki as she made the process so much more enjoyable.

Looking back is there anything you would change?

No there isn’t, the day was perfect. If I had to change one thing however, it would be to tell myself not to worry about things going wrong. I was so concerned about little things not going to plan but at the end of the day, if they do, they are out of your control most of the time. A couple of little things happened during our day but we were so happy, they didn’t even matter.

Best piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding?

Try to make time to do as much of the wedding planning together. It is really important to enjoy the process leading up to the wedding as much as the wedding day itself. And try not to worry about pleasing everyone, it is literally impossible and you will forget what is most important… you guys!
